Self-driving Cars Automated Cars and it's features

Self-driving Cars

Have yo ever heard about self- driving cars ? It is a interesting topic. When we hear the word self-driving cars, we see a lot of questions arising in our mind. Today, I wil tell you about self-driving cars in brief.

Self- driving cars are made on the basis of Artificial Intelligence. Artificial intelligence helps the car recognise things around him and allows to take action. Artificial intelligence works as same as our brain works. It is a copy of our brain. The different components of the car like radar, lidar, sonar, GPS, odometry and inertial measurement units helps the car to sense it's environment and drive safely. If you want to know about Artificial intelligence. Basically, the self-driving cars are vehicles that are capable of sensing its environment and move safely with little or no human input. They move from one place to another by sensing it's environment with the help of different sensors, raidars, etc. They also follow the rules and regulations of road. It was developed because there are lot of accidents happening due to vehicles. From a report everyday around 11 die due to road accidents. If you want to make a model of self-driving car. Self- driving cars have five names. These are Autonomous Vehicle (AV), Connected and Autonomous Vehicle (CAV), Driverless Car, Robo-Car and Robotic Car. There are many sensors and raiders are used  in making self-driving cars. Some of them are radar, lidar, sonar, GPS, odometry and inertial measurement units. Advanced control systems interpret sensory information to identify appropriate navigation paths, as well as obstacles and relevant signage.

Many Experiments have been conducted on automated driving systems (ADS) since at least the 1920s. These  trials began in the 1950s. The first semi-automated car was developed in 1977, by Japan's Tsukuba Mechanical Engineering Laboratory, which required specially marked streets that were interpreted by two cameras on the vehicle and an analog computer. The vehicle can run  at the speed 30 kilometres per hour (19 mph) with the help of an elevated rail. From this experiment many people have tried to make a autonomous car. First landmark autonomous car was made in 1980s by Carnegie Mellon University's Navlab and ALV projects was funded by the United State's Defence Advanced Reasearch Projects Agency ( DARPA ).

In Many films you have seen self-driving cars. It would be truth in the next few years. It will reduce the cost of taking insurance. As the risk of accidents would be 1%. This will encourage normal people to buy self-driving cars. Now, I will tell you about the self-driving car made by Tesla motors. Tesla has made an self-driving car which could run on road without driver at the maximum speed when the road is empty. As it was not successful, it was banned and are not available to buy. It has a lot of accidents when it was available for normal people. Today, no self-driving cars can be seen normally in any country all over the world. Tesla motors have been trying to upgrade their vehicle and they are testing it regularly. But, it is not yet fully developed to use in daily life.

Self-driving cars are classified into Six different levels ranging from fully manual to fully automated systems. It was published in 2014 by SAE International. These are listed below in the following sequence :

• Level 0: The automated system can  issue warnings and may momentarily intervene but it cannot control the vehicle. In this level , the automated system does not have any control on the Vehicle.

• Level 1: It is also known as "hand's on". In this level, the automated system and the driver shares the control of the Vehicle. Examples of level 1 are systemsthe automated system controls engine power and the driver controls steering to maintain a set speed known as CC ( Cruise Control )or the system controls engine and brake power to maintain and vary speed known as ACC ( Adaptive Cruise control ). The automatic braking feature is available in level 1 which alerts the driver to a crash and deploys full braking capacity. The driver must be ready to retake full control of the vehicle at anytime.

Level 2 : It also known as " hand's off". In this level, The automated system takes the full control of the vehicle like accelerating, steering and braking. The driver must be prepared to drive, if any technical issue occur and the driver must be monitoring the driving of the vehicle.

Level 3 : It is also known as " eyes off ". In this level, The driver can remove their attention from the driving task of the vehicle.

For example : the driver can do whatever he want like he can text, watch movie , etc. The vehicle is enough smart to handle the situation like emergency braking, etc. Then also the driver must have still prepared to drive the vehicle when called upon by the vehicle to do so.

Level 4 : It is also known as " mind off  ". In this level, No driver attention is required for safety. For example : The driver can do whatever he want and can leave the driver's seat. Self-driving is supported in some areas.  Beyond these areas, the driver should be careful like parking the car.  An example of level 4 automated car is a robotic delivery service which covers only selected areas.

Level 5 : It is also known as "Steering Wheel Optional". In this level, no human interference is required.  An example of level 5 cars can be a robotic taxi that works on all type of roads and in all weather conditions.
